Yoketha Brown Obituary, Death – Chicago Mother and Nursing Assistant Dies at 35
Yoketha Brown, a 35-year-old mother and certified nursing assistant from Chicago, Illinois, has died following a devastating wrong-way crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
Brown was killed late Sunday night, September 27, after a black SUV traveling in the wrong direction on the northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive collided head-on with the white sedan she was driving. The crash happened near Oakwood Boulevard on Chicago’s South Side.
Brown was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition after the collision, but she later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police said a black coupe was also involved, although no other drivers were reported injured. The SUV driver was taken into custody as authorities continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Her coworker Robinique Collins remembered the special connection they developed on the job. Whenever they realized they were scheduled to work the same shift, the two would make a point of finding each other.
Collins said she had expected to see Brown at work the Monday following the crash, making the sudden news of her death especially difficult to process.
A Nursing Career She Hoped to Build
Brown was also working toward a new goal in healthcare. She had recently begun nursing school as she pursued plans to advance professionally and continue caring for others.
Collins recalled showing Brown her Illinois registered nursing license shortly before her death. According to Collins, Brown embraced her after seeing it, creating a memory that has taken on even greater meaning following the tragedy.
Her decision to continue her education reflected her desire to grow within the healthcare field and pursue a future as a nurse.

Chicago police said the SUV had been traveling south in the northbound lanes when it struck Brown’s vehicle, resulting in a chain-reaction collision. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
