Mark Carl Tietjen Obituary, Death – Clifton Educator Dies at 68

Mark Carl Tietjen, a lifelong resident of Clifton, New Jersey, died peacefully on September 28, 2026, at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff. He was 68.

A dedicated educator, community servant, husband, father, and grandfather, Mark devoted much of his life to Clifton and the students, families, and colleagues he served through a career spanning more than 25 years with the Clifton Board of Education.

Education and Career

Born January 18, 1958, in Passaic, Mark was raised in Clifton and remained closely connected to the community throughout his life.

His professional career began with design work at Leonard A. Schneiders Flowers before he entered education. He spent more than two decades with the Clifton Board of Education, teaching at Woodrow Wilson Middle School before becoming vice principal and later principal of Christopher Columbus Middle School.

Following his retirement, Mark continued serving Clifton Public Schools as an assistant superintendent, extending his commitment to education and the community he had served for so many years.

His three grandsons, Sawyer, Spencer, and Oliver, brought him tremendous happiness. Family traditions were an important part of Mark’s life, including Christmas Eve gatherings, summers in Rehoboth Beach, and trips to Aruba.
