Lonnie Lee Allen Obituary, Death – Raymond, Mississippi Man Dies at 81

Lonnie Lee Allen, 81, of Raymond, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 27, 2026, leaving behind a family who cherished him and a lifetime of service, friendship, and devotion to those he loved.

Born in Indianola, Mississippi, Lonnie grew up in Belzoni and graduated from Belzoni High School. He briefly attended Mississippi State University before deciding that college was not the path he wanted to pursue.

Military Service and Career

Lonnie served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves with the 173rd QM Company. From 1968 to 1969, he was deployed to Phu Bai, Vietnam.

After returning home, Lonnie began a long career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg. Much of his professional life was spent working on projects along the Mississippi River, an area that held a special place in his heart.

He remained with the Corps of Engineers until retiring in 2000.

Lonnie lived in Edwards during his working years before eventually moving to Raymond following retirement. The move brought him closer to the family he loved and allowed him to spend more time with those who meant the most to him.

Remembering Lonnie Lee Allen

Lonnie was an avid deer and turkey hunter and was a longtime member of Old Whitaker Hunting Club in Rocky Springs. He belonged to the club for approximately 40 years and served as its president for several years.

Family became an even greater source of joy after his grandchildren were born. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he made every effort to be present for their activities and important moments.

He helped his family in countless ways and rarely missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren. For those closest to him, his devotion to his family became one of the defining parts of his later years.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Turner Allen Sr.; his mother, Sarah Frances Glidewell Allen; and his brother, Thomas Turner Allen Jr.

He is survived by his son, Charles Jeffrey Allen and his wife, Leslie, of Raymond; his sister, Yolanda Allen Lewellyn of Walla Walla, Washington; his grandsons, Brady Allen Renfro and Reed Evans Allen; his granddaughter, Sadie Elizabeth Allen; his step-daughter, Wendy Varnado; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Arrangements

Visitation for Lonnie Lee Allen will be held Thursday, October 1, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond. A service will follow immediately afterward.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Good Samaritan Fund at Raymond Methodist Church, P.O. Box 64, Raymond, MS 39154. The fund assists people in need throughout the Raymond area.

Lonnie Lee Allen leaves behind a legacy shaped by military service, decades of work along the Mississippi River, his love of hunting, and above all, his devotion to family. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
